The Tisch Library Research & Instruction Department invites graduate students interested in teaching research skills to undergraduate students to apply for an Instruction Intern position.

Position Summary:

• Working in the Research & Instruction Department at Tisch Library, the Instruction Intern will work closely with instruction librarians to learn about the instruction program, deliver library instruction, and facilitate library orientation events.
• The internship has a built-in training period, the length of which will be determined by the number of instruction sessions the intern is able to observe and co-teach, librarians’ assessment of the intern’s preparedness, and the intern’s own comfort level with the instruction material.
• ~ 5-10 hours/week (Weekly hours will vary according to instruction schedule and will be more heavily concentrated in the beginning and middle of the semester.)
• Compensation for this position is $20.00/hour

Responsibilities: 

• Observe, co-teach and teach library instruction sessions, mainly to students in First-Year Writing Program classes
• Assist with instructional projects as needed
• Assist with library outreach events
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree
• Required Experience: Familiarity with an academic library environment; strong interpersonal, oral andwritten communication skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team; demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
• Preferred Experience: Classroom teaching experience.

The Research and Instruction Department coordinates library support for learning, teaching, and research within the School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering. Research and Instruction Librarians provide research assistance services for faculty, students, and staff, offered within the library and virtually; partner with faculty to incorporate curriculum-based research and information literacy activities into courses; design library instruction workshops for students and faculty; and develop new models and programs to support the educational mission of the University.

Tisch Library serves the School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering. The library partners in a variety of ways with other Tufts libraries including the Hirsh Health Sciences Library, the Webster Veterinary Library, the Digital Collections and Archives group, and the Ginn Library of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Tisch Library is located on the Medford-Somerville campus.
