The Service Desk Assistant is primarily responsible for performing routine tasks and supervising student staff at the Circulation Desk during late evening and weekend hours. The person in this position also facilitates access to Media Desk collections and services when the Media Desk is not staffed.
Requirements:
A commitment to customer service. Good oral and written communication skills. Experience using web browser and email.
Familiarity with Ex Libris Voyager integrated library system, MediaNet media booking system, Dean Evans Associates EMS room reservation system, and Gimlet statistical tracking is a plus. Microsoft Windows environment. Experience working in an academic library preferred.
Duties:
At the Circulation Desk, the Service Desk Assistant is responsible for the following tasks: opening and closing the library on Saturday and opening the Library on Sunday, charging and discharging circulating and reserve materials, and answering questions regarding patron accounts, overdues, book renewals, and borrowing privileges. The person in this position also assists with the training and supervision of student assistants, provides an adult presence in the absence of regular full time staff, counts and records the cash drawer and gathers and reports statistics on foot traffic.
When the Media Desk is closed, the Service Desk Assistant will assist library users by answering questions about Media collection and policies and providing access to materials from the Teaching and Media Reserves collections. This position will also be responsible for doing Display Look-up searches in Medianet in order to determine status of dvd or vhs tape before handing this material over to a faculty member who wants to borrow it on the spot. As part of closing, the Service Desk Assistant will do a sweep of study rooms and remind students with media materials and keys to return them 15 minutes before closing.
