STEM Librarian, East Carolina University, Greenville, NC

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Librarian: J.Y. Joyner Library at East Carolina University (ECU) seeks an enthusiastic, flexible, and service-oriented self-starter for the position of STEM Librarian. The librarian is a member of the Academic Library Services (ALS) Research and Instructional Services Department, and reports to the Head of Research and Instructional Services.

The STEM Librarian provides instructional services to students and faculty in science-related departments; develops library-related online instructional materials that support the curriculum including the creation and upkeep of research guides; consults with students, faculty, and other members of the ECU community to provide assistance through research consultations and regularly scheduled desk shifts. Manages collection development budgets for assigned science fields; works closely with faculty within these departments to develop and assess the library’s collections and services and to integrate library resources into teaching and learning; participates in scholarly communications initiatives; serves on library, campus, and other committees.

Rank, Salary and Benefits: This is a fixed-term appointment; which may subsequently be renewed for a multi-year appointment period following the initial year of employment. Salary of $43,500, with a comprehensive fringe benefits package.

Required:  ALA-accredited master’s degree or international equivalent in library or information science.

Demonstrated commitment to public service in the academic library; instruction or presentation experience; a strong interest in collection development in one or more STEM fields; knowledge of scholarly communications initiatives; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; and ability to work effectively with staff and users. All degrees must be conferred by an accredited institution on or before the hire date.

Preferred:  Degree or concentration in a STEM discipline including: life, earth, health or physical sciences, Engineering, Math, or other technical fields; experience in library collection development tools, trends and practices; knowledge of current publishing environment in the STEM disciplines; experience in the development and creation of online instructional materials and academic and/or Special Library experience.
