Project Archivist, East Carolina University, Greenville, NC

East Carolina University’s Joyner Library seeks highly motivated and innovative applicants for the position of Project Archivist. This is a temporary, nine-month LSTA-grant funded position.

The successful candidate will, under the supervision of the Digital Collections Librarian and with assistance from a graduate assistant, make the finding aids of the Laupus Library History Collections accessible online. Primary responsibilities include creating Encoded Archival Description (EAD) finding aids in Archivists’ Toolkit using existing data, selecting for digitization at least 200 items from the collection for inclusion in the ECU Libraries Digital Collections repository, revising existing metadata in the Digital Collections repository related to the Laupus History Collections to eliminate any discrepancies, and promoting the online finding aids and newly digitized materials through physical and online exhibits. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with faculty and staff at Joyner Library and Laupus Health Sciences Library.

The grant is made possible through funding from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.

Demonstrated knowledge of current metadata and descriptive standards, including DACS and EAD.
Minimum of 1 year experience using Archivists’ Toolkit or other archival content management system.
Manuscript processing experience and/or archival coursework experience.
Ability to set priorities, manage work, and meet deadlines independently and collaboratively.
Knowledge of archival theory, practice, and standards.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, project management, and organizational skills.
A bachelor’s degree.

ALA accredited master’s degree or international equivalent in library or information science or an advanced degree in history, cultural studies, or a related field.

Knowledge of digitization best practices and procedures.
Experience promoting special collections materials by creating physical and/or online exhibits.
Supervisory experience.
