Librarian, Greenfield Community College, Greenfield, MA

POSITION: Librarian – part time non-benefited MCCC/MTA unit professional position

Non-tenure track; 22.5 hours/week, approximately 32 weeks/year

RANK AND SALARY: $26.40/hour

START DATE: September 2015

THE COLLEGE:

Greenfield Community College is located in the beautiful and historic Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts, between the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains and the fertile farmland of the Connecticut River watershed. GCC is a public community college of approximately 2,400 students. Known for the caring and supportive attitude of the faculty and staff, and for the broad support it enjoys from the surrounding community, the college is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. In addition to a strong Liberal Arts focus, the College offers a wide variety of innovative and successful programs including Gender and Women’s Studies, Fine Arts, Nursing, Renewable Energy, and Outdoor Leadership, as well as varied learning environments, from traditional classrooms, to distance learning, peer tutoring, one-on-one faculty-student advising, workforce development, and learning communities that cater to specific needs and interests. Close to fifty percent of Greenfield Community College students transfer to four-year colleges, and it is Smith College’s largest source of community college transfer students. Much of the College has recently undergone a multi-million dollar renovation that sets the stage for future developments in learning. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Under the general direction of the Director of the Library, Greenfield Community College seeks a creative, collaborative, student-centered, and technologically-savvy librarian for a reference and instruction position, with a particular focus on distance education and digital services.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Provide leadership and recommendations for how to best tailor the library experience for distance education students.
  • Collaborate with faculty and library staff to develop, maintain, assess, and facilitate information literacy instruction through a variety of delivery modes.
  • Liaise with faculty, particularly those teaching fully online, to develop imbedded library resources and instruction in learning management system (Moodle).
  • Devise, update, and assess new reference and research services, relevant to our student population, utilizing current and emerging technologies.
  • Collaborate with faculty on curriculum-specific resources and assignments.
  • Create, implement and assess online learning objects such as specialized research guides and multimedia tutorials using particular platforms (LibGuides, Camtasia, Jing, etc.).
  • Promote awareness and use of library resources through outreach to faculty, staff and students.
  • Troubleshoot computer, network and other equipment issues and problems.
  • Serve as point of contact to liaison with partnering college libraries
  • Provide circulation services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science or demonstrated significant progress towards Library Science Master’s degree.
  • Experience providing reference/research service in person and in online environments.
  • Working knowledge of software programs, such as Camtasia, Jing, Screencast-O-Matic, etc.
  • Experience in creating, implementing, and assessing online learning objects, such as specialized research guides and multimedia tutorials.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in a variety of delivery modules and with groups of all sizes.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse student, faculty and staff population.
  • Working knowledge of trends and emerging technologies in libraries.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work days and evenings.
  • Proficiency in current and emerging technologies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in a community college setting.
  • Familiarity with assessment methods for library services and information literacy.
  • Familiarity with OER (Open Educational Resources).
  • Community college teaching, project management, or grant experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The work requirement of this position is 22.5 hours a week, standard workdays are negotiable but a minimum of three days per week on campus will be required for the academic year, (approximately 32 weeks per year).  Occasional weekend work may be required.
