General Position Description:
The Market Intelligence (MI) team acts as the eyes and ears for athenahealth on the market. We help leadership as well as account-facing teams to better understand the needs of our constituents and to capitalize on opportunities to grow the business, build trust and earn credibility with key decision makers. 

The MI Sr. Associate or Associate will be responsible for researching market trends, segments, competitors and other topics as directed by MI Manager(s). S/he will also be responsible for refining market surveillance activities through the optimization of a daily news alert service. In addition, the MI Sr. Associate or Associate will support a nurture program for key healthcare financial services players and curate athena’s market knowledge via web-based tools.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform primary and secondary research on competitors, market trends, sub-segments (e.g. urgent care) and ad hoc topics that informs marketing, sales, client development and product planning efforts and supports athena’s thought leadership, credibility and influence
  • Conduct research on key healthcare financial services players such as private equity firms with stakes in athena clients and prospects; support related outreach and relationship management efforts
  • Optimize MI’s daily news alert service by ensuring subscribers are properly assigned to keywords, important stories are not missed, and that insights from weekly performance reporting are used to continuously improve utility and adoption  
  • Maintain portfolio of research resources for the MI organization, ensuring optimization of existing resources and identifying/acquiring new resources as needed
  • Streamline knowledge management to make MI the keeper of athena’s institutional knowledge on the market; curate internal and external content via web-based tools, making it easy for athena employees to independently access market resources

  • Sound judgment in prioritizing deliverables with limited oversight;
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort with ambiguity;
  • Fluency with external financial and industry sources such as ThomsonOne, SEC filings, etc.;
  • Expertise in MSFT Office (esp. Excel and PowerPoint) and experience with SharePoint and Salesforce preferred.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree (in Library Science or Intelligence) preferred;
  • At least 2 years of professional experience;
  • Experience in market intelligence/industry research;
  • Foundational knowledge of the U.S. health care marketplace preferred.
