Evening Reference Assistant, Boston College, Boston, MA

The Thomas P. O’Neill Library at Boston College is seeking an Evening Reference Assistant for the 2015-2016 academic year. This is an excellent opportunity for a currently enrolled library and information science graduate student to apply customer service skills and library knowledge in a reference services department with a reputation for high standards.

Responsibilities

Provides outstanding service to library patrons through direct patron assistance, both in person and by telephone.  Answers library information and research questions at the O’Neill Library reference desk. Types of service provided include database and research tool selection, ready reference, basic technology support, directional assistance, and referral.  Works on special projects as needed.

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • An understanding of information organization, research practices, library research databases, and library support services. 
  • Current enrollment in a MLIS/MLS program

Preferred:  Completion of reference coursework.

Hours and Rate

We will be filling four evening shifts Monday-Thursday from 4pm to 8pm through the end of the Spring academic semester, ending May 31, 2016.  Please indicate your time/day availability in your letter; depending on availability, hours may be shared by multiple hires. Pay is $16.00/hr.
