General Services Librarian, Mattapoisett Public Library, Mattapoisett, MA

The Town of Mattapoisett is seeking an energetic and creative professional to fill a new part-time position. This team member will be involved in all aspects of the library and will be a passionate advocate for expanding and developing programs and services for all ages.

Description: Duties will include, but are not limited to, adult and youth programming, project management, collection development, and the promotion of library programs and services including social media and website management. The position also requires performing reference and circulation functions in the adult and the children’s departments from time to time. The ideal candidate will be a friendly individual with a passion for public service, who enjoys developing service models to meet the varied needs of patrons, and who will communicate enthusiasm to the entire library team, the Board of Trustees, Friends of the Library, and the public.

Hours: up to 19.5 hours per week, including Sunday afternoons (September-May) and some evenings. Must be flexible in order to adjust to the workload at the library.

Qualifications: Masters in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution. Must have a working knowledge of library operations, policies and procedures. Must have 2-3 years of library experience or coursework or the equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge, skills and ability for the position. Must demonstrate excellence in providing customer service and can communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with the public, town employees, other staff, guests, and vendors. Must demonstrate a high regard for patron privacy and the policies and procedures of the Town of Mattapoisett, the library and its automated network. Must have current technology skills and be able to train and share these skills. An interest in reading, literature, online reference tools, and current technology is essential.

Salary: $20 per hour. The town offers 19.5 hours sick time and 8 hours personal time per year with this position.
