The Gleason Public Library Board of Trustees seeks qualified applicants to serve as Director of a vibrant community library.

We are looking for an energetic, positive, innovative, customer-service oriented professional who is interested and enthusiastic to meet the range of individual and community needs in Carlisle. Applicants must possess strong communication, organization, and management skills. Applicants should demonstrate project, facility, and personnel management, as well as budgeting and planning experience. Applicants should demonstrate strong skills in technology, collection development, policy making, and financial and data analysis.

The Director is responsible for the overall management and daily operations of the Library including planning, facility operations, staff management and evaluations, collaboration with other entities, budget development, and financial management of library-related town, private, grant, and trust fund expenditures. The Director must develop innovative approaches to raising funds and participate on the floor of the Library, in policy development, and in outreach to the community.

The Director must be able to work with various groups and committees affiliated with the Library, such as the Friends and Endowment. The Director must also work with many community groups and town government bodies including the Historical Society, local schools, town employees, and various boards, committees and commissions. The Director should enjoy hard work.

The Director reports directly to a three-member elected Board of Library Trustees.

Full time, 35 hours per week position, with some evenings, weekends and special events. The position is benefited and falls under the Town of Carlisle Personnel Policy.

Salary: minimum $77,011.78

Carlisle is a small residential town about 20 miles northwest of Boston. With a population under 5,000, Carlisle has a rural feel and strong community spirit. Gleason Public Library is well-supported and a center of activity in our town.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school; minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in library administration including supervisory work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
