Metadata and Resource Management Librarian, Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, CT

Reporting to the University Librarian, the Metadata and Resource Management Librarian develops and coordinates the Library’s resource management services, including acquisitions and cataloging of tangible and digital resources in a wide variety of formats; Manages digital content of the Library’s catalog and discovery service; collaborates with information transfer from external vendors to the library’s integrated library system (Innovative Interfaces Sierra).
Duties include:
- Develops and builds the content of the Library’s catalog and discovery services, and manages their quality and currency;
- Collaborates with Director of Digital Library Services to make optimal use of the Library’s integrated library system (ILS) and discovery service for making library content accessible for all users;
- Co-ordinates and carries out projects to maintain and improve the library’s catalog and access to tangible and digital materials, including resolution of cataloging problems, withdrawn materials, etc.
- Coordinates acquisitions of new tangible and digital monographs, DVDs, and other collection formats as appropriate and as requested;
- Coordinates initial processing of tangible monographs, DVDs, and other resources;
- Provides leadership in production and maintenance of resource management statistics;
- Catalogs library material, including original and copy cataloging, according to professional standards such as AACR2(R), RDA, and other standards and as they develop;
- Implements changes according to national and international cataloging standards;
- Collaborates with library colleagues on planning, implementation, and management of new technologies and services.
- Keeps abreast of and contributes to relevant developments in librarianship through professional associations and professional literature, web resources, blogs, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- MLS (Master’s in Library Science) from an ALA accredited library school;
- Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills in a team environment;
- Minimum three years academic library experience of increasing responsibility with library cataloging, technical services, and electronic resources;
- Experience with transferring bibliographic records between systems;
- Experience with description and configuration of resources and services to maximize the effective of the library’s discovery service;
- Knowledge of library cataloging practice and standards, including AACR2, RDA, LCSH, LC Classification, and OCLC;
- Experience with integrated library systems (III Sierra preferred), e-resource management systems, and other library technologies;
- Demonstrated ability to learn and implement new technologies and initiate change;
- Experience with library research/reference services and/or information literacy teaching;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate technical information in non-technical manner;
- Demonstrated ability to support and foster development of colleagues.
