Digital Projects & Resource Management Librarian, Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, CT

Reporting to the University Librarian, the Digital Projects & Resource Management Librarian coordinates digital projects with librarians, online faculty and the Office of Digital Learning; publicizes, advises and consults with faculty members regarding DigitalCommons, SelectedWorks, SharedShelf, and other projects; participates with image and text digitization projects; provides digital and on-ground instructional and research services to on-ground and online library users; provides coordination and assistance with resource acquisitions and subscriptions.

Duties include:

  • Develops and manages SharedShelf, and manages and coordinates digitization projects with the Director of Digital Library Services and the Manager of Library Information Technology;
  • Advocates for Digital Commons, Shared Shelf, and other digital projects with faculty and university administrators; recruits faculty and administration for participation in digitization and data management projects; leads workshops and attends public events as necessary and relevant;
  • Manages acquisitions and subscription workflows for tangible and digital monographs and serials; verifies accuracy of bibliographic data as necessary; transmits electronic orders and other data to vendors; receives and verifies tangible items as necessary; transmits invoices and other records to Director of Library Information and Budget
  • Provides copy cataloging using professional standards such as AACR2 and RDA in cooperation with other resource management librarians;
  • Resolves difficult situations of claiming and replacement copies in cooperation with the Resource Management Library Assistant;
  • Assists with Digital Commons and Selected Works sites in cooperation with the Digital Commons and Resource Management Librarian;
  • Supervises the print reserve readings processing to verify bibliographic record quality;
  • Helps to develop open educational resources in cooperation with other librarians and University faculty, and advocates for open educational resources;
  • Provides research and reference service, information literacy instruction, and collection development activities as appropriate in cooperation with other librarians, especially those services aimed at online students;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • MLS (Masters in Library Science) from an ALA-accredited library faculty;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical colleagues, including faculty;
  • Genuine commitment to digitization projects and standards, including preservation standards;
  • Knowledge of library acquisitions systems and procedures, or ability to learn such systems and procedures quickly;
  • Basic knowledge of library cataloging practices and standards, including AACR2, RDA, LCSH, LC Classification, and OCLC;
  • Meticulous attention to detail and persistence with identifying and resolving technical problems;
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to new challenges;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with online students and faculty, especially those working at some distance from the University community;
  • Ability to deal positively with a diverse user group of faculty and friends of the University.

Additional Information:

  • Heavy use of computer and web applications; ability to lift small boxes and other materials
  • Library experience is preferred, but this position is also an excellent opportunity for new librarians with demonstrated skills and commitment to the field.
