Legal Research Librarian, John Joseph Moakley Law Library, Suffolk University Law School, Boston, MA

The Legal Research Librarians play an essential role in the law school by planning and implementing the law school’s legal research curriculum.  They support the law school’s faculty in their research endeavors, they teach stand-alone research courses, they partner with LPS faculty to teach legal research in the 1L curriculum, and they provide reference and training support to student researchers.  Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  providing research assistance, training and research support to law school faculty and serving as research liaison to assigned faculty members; providing research assistance, training and reference support to law school students, alumni, and members of the MA Bar; teaching stand-alone law school research courses, teaching 1L legal research in the LPS program, and teaching specialized research lectures via invitation by law school faculty; Assisting with collection development, developing and implementing new library services and programs; advising the law library director and serving as part of the law library management team; Work with vendors to trial, license, and troubleshoot subscription databases; assist students, faculty, and staff in using subscription databases and maintaining and updating the library’s website, faculty portal, and student writing portal; managing the law school’s subscriptions to SSRN, ExpressO, and Scholastica; and assisting faculty with posting articles to SSRN and submitting articles through ExpressO and Scholastica.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Library & Information Science or equivalent (JD degree is strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated relevant work experience
  • Strong computer skills and web skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be committed to providing the highest level of customer service and responsiveness 
  • Emotional and cultural intelligence with proven ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team 
  • Must be creative and proactive.   Must have ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and handle difficult situations.
  • Standard hours of this position are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, M-F, but will include at least one evening per week until 7:00 pm and could include occasional weekend days as needed.
