The mission of the Indexing Manager is to enthusiastically own, manage and improve EIS’s medical indexing process and drive product enhancements with the ultimate goal of exceeding customer expectations. This requires building strong, collaborative relationships with departmental peers and cross functional teams involved in deploying medical products to market. The role of the manager is to provide team members with the resources, training, support and direction that allows them to meet individual, team and organization goals while fostering an environment that embraces high standards and continuous improvement. Medical Indexing team members include Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) Indexers and other medical Content Specialists who write abstracts, assign subject terms, and provide value added features to titles targeted for periodical-based databases including nursing, allied health, biomedical, general science, and point-of-care.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Service delivery: Ensure that lead-time and quality goals are met based on existing standards for CINAHL and other medical databases
- Team building: Foster an environment that values enthusiasm for the medical indexing process, product enhancement/improvement, transparency, and career growth for a team that includes both on-site and remote employees
- Continuous Improvement: Shape improvements to the CINAHL indexing and taxonomy management process (in collaboration with the Taxonomy team), as well as supporting enhancements to CINAHL, Medline and other product lines
- Project ownership: Lead initiatives that are directly and indirectly related to medical databases, in collaboration with other CM managers and contributors
- Oversee staff and vendor partner processing budget for medical abstracting and indexing
- Ensure alignment with industry standards for indexing, and train/educate staff in the handling of CINAHL, medical, and science content
- Maintain strong relationships with other Content Management and EIS individuals and teams, working across teams to solve CM-wide challenges
- Collaborate with Customer Satisfaction as needed to provide guidance and detailed responses to customer inquiries
- Provides regular updates to Director(s) on service delivery, progress against individual and team goals, blockers/challenges, and initiative/projects
- Completes other tasks and duties as assigned by Director
Skills
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2+ years working with Microsoft Access & Excel
- Supervisory/Management experience (3+ years)
- Project Management experience (3+ years)
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite (5+ years)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in a medical, nursing, science, or library science field, or comparable experience and knowledge
- Experience with indexing and/or taxonomy management
- Excellent analytical, reading and writing skills
- Highly self-motivated, goal-oriented, and self-directed
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to analyze information, summarize, and make decisions or recommendations
- Ability to foster a team spirit, with team and peers, that results in meeting/exceeding business goals
