A&I Content Specialist – Multidisciplinary, EBSCO, Topsfield, MA

The A&I Content Specialist is responsible for writing abstracts and assigning appropriate Library of Congress and Thesaurus headings for multidisciplinary content. The person in this position is expected to produce specified volumes to meet the demands of the job.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Writes accurate abstracts of articles assigned–articles cover a wide range of subject areas, including subjects related to science, medicine, business, politics, and culture, and vary in complexity from general interest to highly technical
- Assigns subject headings to abstracts
- Suggests and creates new subject headings as needed
- Proofs work to ensure accuracy of all names, facts, spelling, grammar, etc., while also checking the accuracy of subject heading assignments
- Conforms to standards of abstracting established by EBSCO Publishing, and conforms to standards of indexing established by EBSCO Publishing and the Library of Congress
- Executes assigned work as directed by Supervisor or Team Leader
- Creates records consistent in quality and speed with accepted standards for Abstractors
- Assists with other projects as assigned by Team Leader, Supervisor or Editorial management
Skills
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 5 years experience in a relevant field
- 1+ years in a role requiring analytical, reading, writing and proofing skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to handle heavy computer usage in an office environment
- Comfortable reading/writing from scanned images of journals in such subject areas as science, medicine, business, culture, and sports
- Ability to effectively communicate with coworkers and superiors
- Writing/editing experience preferred
- Computer literacy and data entry/typing skills
- Experience in or knowledge of mathematics, business, or science preferred
- Excellent verbal communication; Excellent written communication; Positive attitude & team player
