Executive Director of the Libraries of Foster, Foster, RI

The Foster Public Library Board of Trustees is seeking a creative, energetic and forward-thinking person to serve as our Executive Director of library services. The Director works with staff and volunteers to support the library services of the community of Foster, a small town in western Rhode Island. The Foster Public Library is a private, non-profit organization currently housed in two historic buildings and governed by a seven member board. This position is ideal for a library professional who has the vision to meet the evolving needs of our rural community. The library board is in the first stages of planning a centrally located library, and the successful candidate will possess the leadership skills necessary to work with members of the community, library trustees, and local officials to steward this library project to completion.

The Director supervises a nine member staff and coordinates activities of volunteers in the provision of daily library services to the Foster community and to the local elementary school. The Director participates in local and regional professional communities.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in library /information science
  • Three years professional library experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency with library operations
  • Ability to articulate vision of library services in 21st century
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

The successful candidate will have experience managing library services, planning budgets, and working with library trustees. Candidates experienced in grant writing or project management are strongly encouraged to apply. The Executive Director of the Foster Public Library is a full time position with a salary of $46,145, and as such is eligible for health benefits and a Simple IRA plan.
