Reference Librarian, Northborough Free Library, Northborough, MA

The Northborough Free Library is seeking candidates for a part-time professional reference librarian to work 19 hours per week. The reference librarian answers questions from the public in person, on the phone, and by e-mail. Duties also include cataloging, interlibrary loan, collection maintenance and development, creating reading lists and displays, computer maintenance, and contributions to the library website.

Hours: Preference is for someone who can work Saturdays from 9 to 5 and at least two evenings per week until 8:30 p.m., with other hours during the week up to 19 hours.

Qualifications: Master’s in Library Science, with coursework and/or experience in reference services. Familiarity with library automation in a consortium setting is highly desirable. Other skills include familiarity with both print and electronic sources, ability to troubleshoot computers and assist patrons with common computer applications and functions, a high degree of tactful customer service, and reader’s advisory skills. Must be able to work with patrons of all ages. Cataloging experience is helpful, but we will train.

The position is at grade C of the compensation schedule, with a starting pay of $22.45 per hour, and $22.89 as of July 1, 2015. This is a non-benefited position.
