Children’s Librarian, Needham Free Public Library, Needham, MA

Duties/Description: The Needham Free Public Library is seeking a Children’s Librarian to work with children, birth to 6th grade, as well as parents, teachers and caretakers. Duties include but are not limited to: assisting patrons in locating and using library materials; providing assistance to patrons using computers and other technology; offering readers advisory services, creating book lists of recommended reading for various age groups and reading levels on a wide assortment of topics; creating and maintaining book displays; interpreting and enforcing library policies; and answering reference questions in person as well as on the telephone or computer. Qualifications: Masters Degree in Library Science required, however actively enrolled MLS candidates will be considered. A concentration in Children’s Services preferred or at least 6 months experience working with children in a public library setting. A thorough knowledge of children’s Literature is required. Successful candidate will be dependable and work well with others. Must exhibit good judgement, strong communication and technology skills, excellent customer service skills, attention to detail and a friendly manner. Knowledge of MS Office required. Knowledge of Sierra and Minuteman Library Network a plus.

Salary: $21.49 per hour
