Lower School Librarian (Primary Grades) The Wheeler School, Providence, RI

The successful candidate for this position will have a demonstrated appreciation for and knowledge of children’s literature and ability to work with children at all grade levels in the Lower School Division grades N-5. Primary teaching and collection management responsibilities will be for grades N-2. The librarian must work effectively and collaboratively with the Head Lower School Librarian. Departmental responsibilities include full participation in all department initiatives including integration of information literacy skills instruction while fostering a love of reading and books. In conjunction with the Lower School Librarian will develop the collections’ print, audio and electronic resources. Collaboration with N-2 teachers to support emergent literacy initiatives and develop age appropriate project based learning opportunities using the inquiry model is essential. Performs book talks and story time activities for grades N-2 and supports other related independent reading initiative programs for all students grades N-5. Comfortable working with teachers and students using various technologies including but not limited to iPads and Chromebooks. Willing to serve as a resource to Early Childhood faculty when integrating technology into instruction. Demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative, collegial environment.

Requirements:

An advanced degree in Library Science or a candidate in a degree program with a school library or children’s library service concentration. One to two years of experience working with elementary aged children in a school or library setting is desired.
