Archivist, Iowa State University Library, Ames, IA

The Iowa State University Library is seeking qualified applications of Archivists who have experience in rare books and manuscripts, or reference and outreach.  In addition to providing leadership in one of these roles, the Archivist will be expected to assist with the acquisition, appraisal, processing, description, reference, and outreach for the department’s collections.  This is a non-tenure track, Academic Librarian position with the opportunity for promotion. Librarians are expected to develop an external reputation through external professional practice service and/or published scholarship in areas related to professional responsibilities and a record of institutional service.

The Special Collections and University Archives holdings include rare books, manuscript collections, and the University Archives.  With over 15,000 linear feet of archival collections, 50,000 rare books, and films, artifacts, photographs, and other rare and unique materials, the department assists hundreds of researchers each year and maintains an active public service, outreach, and tour program.  Subject strengths reflect the major teaching and research areas of the university: agriculture and rural life, life sciences, veterinary medicine, engineering, and the Archives of Women in Science and Engineering.
