Isaacson, Miller seeks a new Research Manager to oversee, manage and develop the firm’s research function. This person will play a critical role in ensuring that the firm’s search teams have the information they need to sell, execute and close searches for leaders of nonprofit organizations. Reporting to the Chief Knowledge Officer, the Research Manager oversees a team of Research Specialists and works closely with the broader knowledge management group to ensure that the firm’s information infrastructure is of the highest quality.
This position is ideal for a mission-driven individual with strong research, project management and supervisory skills to lead a team of Research Specialists in a large and growing executive search firm. The new Research Manager should be curious, self-motivated and eager to oversee a critical and evolving search function. Key Qualifications
Background: Bachelor’s degree with three to five years of translatable, professional experience. Experience working in a nonprofit or higher education context is a plus, as is a Master’s degree.
Management: Experience supervising and managing a small group of individuals working in a knowledge management or research capacity.
Project Management: Proven ability to manage and complete multiple tasks simultaneously and independently, delivering high quality work within established timelines.
Communication: Proven ability to listen well and to write and speak clearly and concisely. Responds promptly and professionally to email and in-person requests, with a strong motivation to understand the context and goals of the assignments.
Technical Ability: The Research Manager must be adept at using search engines and web browsers to find information. S/he must be willing to discover, explore, master, and, when appropriate, teach others about new software, research tools and techniques. Specifically, the Research Manager must have knowledge of or be able and willing to learn how to use the following tools:
- MySQL (Navicat)
- Microsoft Access (basic)
- Microsoft Excel (advanced)
- Microsoft Word (intermediate)
- Crystal Reports
- The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS)
- Box.com
- Basic knowledge of any standard programming language (e.g. Java, Python)
Attention to detail: The Research Manager must have an exceptional attention to detail.
Flexibility: The Research Manager will work with a wide array of individuals across all of our offices. To do so effectively, s/he must be able to recognize and accommodate internal customers’ varied approaches and expectations of research and tailor communications effectively to each recipient.
Self-Direction: The Research Manager must be entirely self-directed and be able to work independently. S/he must be able to recognize and articulate problems and propose creative solutions. S/he must be inquisitive and driven to understand the context and implications of the research work within the context of our searches.
