The Goodnow Library in Sudbury is seeking a full-time Young Adult Librarian with the interest and ability to translate the needs and interests of the community’s teens and tweens into effective library services and programs.
Duties:
Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Young Adult Librarian will be responsible for the following:
- Handling the development and implementation of all programming and publicity, including STEM, for middle school and high school students
- Planning and running the twice-yearly high school “study week” at the library, including the staffing of extended hours, and coordinating study breaks and food
- Serves as a key member of the library’s Maker Space development team
- Responsible for all aspects of collection development for teens, including: selection, analysis, reader’s advisory and weeding
- Collaborating with Children’s services staff to plan and implement complementary programs and services
- Coordinating the daily activities of volunteers assigned to young adults
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with other local agencies and organizations serving young adults
- Working regular shifts in the Reference and Children’s departments
Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited college or university, and at least 2 years’ public library experience in teen services
- Ability to develop tween/teen programs and services specifically designed to increase visibility and use of the library
- Willingness to assume a leadership role in department development and collaboration
- Knowledge of current trends in library services for young adults and young adult literature, media and technology
- Willingness and ability to lead others in the use of social media and technology in the library
- Ability to work closely with the Children’s department to recruit and supervise high school volunteers
- Knowledge of standard library procedures, current information technology, Internet and database search capabilities
- Strong commitment to utilizing emerging technologies to enhance young adult services
This position is 35 hours per week, which includes evenings per week and weekends.
A CORI will be required for the successful candidate.
