Innovation Center Public Services Assistant, Wheelock College, Boston, MA

Duties/Description:

The Earl Center for Learning and Innovation at Wheelock College is accepting applications for Public Services Assistants.

This is a part-time, pre-professional position that will provide incumbents with experience in resource center, makerspace and access services, as well as in supervision of student workers (young adults). Candidates must demonstrate significant interest in all aspects of public services work in an innovation center particularly in a warm and welcoming customer service model. Interest in technology encouraged. Opportunity to learn technology on the job.

General Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and trains undergraduate student workers at the Service Desk.
  • Provides patron assistance via face-to-face, telephone, email, and text.
  • Access services duties include circulation, as well as stacks and resource center material maintenance, technology demonstration such as 3D printer.
  • Resource duties include one-on-one materials assistance and instruction, compilation of lib guides, displays and presentations.
  • Troubleshoots basic computer, printer and technical issues.
  • Become informed about current technological resources.
  • Assists with opening and closing the library as necessary.
  • Maintains patron accounts and upholds library policies.
  • Maintains statistics and records of Service Desk activity.
  • Performs and delegates tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Previous customer service and/or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability and interest in learning new things fast.
  • Sense of humor
  • Interest in technology and makerspace topics
  • Strong database and web search skills, demonstrated through coursework or related experience.
  • Priority given to individuals currently enrolled in a graduate library science program for two or fewer semesters.
  • Must be available evenings and weekends.

Hours: evenings and weekends, approximately 10-15 hours per week when school is in session; some potential mornings, some day-time hours during summer sessions

Salary:

$13.00 /hour
