Job Description:

The Reference Librarian/Assistant will perform reference, public service, and some technical service duties; oversee all library operations nights, weekends, and holidays; assist library patrons in the use of electronic resources; assist with scheduled information literacy classes; and participate in special projects.

Essential responsibilities will include:

  • Serve as “Librarian-in-Charge” for all library operations, and student workers during night, weekend, and holiday shifts.(Student workers are assigned their specific tasks by their supervisor, the Library Administrative Assistant)
  • Provide reference and information services, including database searching instruction, and assistance with the use of print materials.
  • Provide coverage in circulation, reserves, and media services, as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting reference computers and printers.
  • Input reference transactions into the reference statistical database.
  • Assist with reference projects to enhance library users’ research skills.
  • Aid in the supervision of student workers who report to the Library Administrative Assistant.

The hours for this part-time position will be: Tuesday 7:15AM – 12:00PM, Wednesday 5:00PM – 10PM and Thursday 3:00PM – 10:00PM

Requirements:

  • MLS or MLS candidate, who has completed the Reference course.
  • 1-2 years library reference, or related customer service.
  • Ability to supervise student workers and oversee media services at night, on weekends, and holidays.
  • Also: knowledge, skills, and facility with both print and electronic resources; facility with new technologies; ability to work successfully in a team environment and individually; willingness to provide library instruction under the supervision of the Head of Reference; ability to work closely and effectively with students and faculty; good interpersonal and communication skills; and ability to participate in and initiate special projects.
