Located on the Connecticut River in southwest New Hampshire, Walpole is home to Burdick’s Chocolate and Florentine Films. Our proximity to Keene, as well as I91, has made Walpole an attractive spot for a wide variety of retirees from around the country with a wide variety of backgrounds. We may be rural, but we have a lot of diversity. Our attractive, albeit small, library is right on Main Street in the heart of this stimulating community.
The Board of Trustees seeks a highly motivated, experienced individual who can work in a team environment to provide leadership and direction for this small, community library. The position is primarily administrative and involves responsibility for planning, organizing, directing and coordinating all library functions including managing a staff of 4 and a dedicated group of 15-20 volunteers. Additionally, the Director works closely with the Board of Trustees and a very supportive group of Friends of the Library.
The Director performs professional and administrative duties across a full range of library services including personnel management, budget management, collection development, community relations, and facility maintenance. The right candidate will have a strong knowledge of, and skill with, emerging technologies and applications in library services, collection and program development, personnel and financial management, strategic planning, and strong organizational skills.
A bachelor’s degree in Library Science or related field and 3 years of administrative experience, including a broad background in supervision, administration, operations, technology and finance is desired. An MLS from an ALA accredited program and knowledge of public library services, operations and collections preferred. A background check will be required as a condition of employment.
This position requires some evening hours and is full-time at a salaried rate between $30,000 and $35,000, depending on qualifications. A benefits package becomes available after an initial probationary period.
