Cengage Learning is reinventing learning. We are looking for a talented UX Research Intern with a passion for user-centered user experience research to work with us during the summer months in Boston. The ideal candidate will be adept at using traditional, hybrid and innovative UX research methods and tools, as well as new approaches and original thinking for mobile and content platforms and will have a passion for expanding his/her innovative and cutting-edge research portfolio while conducting in-person and remote testing.
Responsibilities:
- Support and collaborate with UX designers, product managers and engineers in planning, developing and executing user-centric research to ensure an exceptional user experience.
- Plan and participate in recruitment activities for user research participants including: developing criteria, creating screeners, connecting with potential participants, tracking status, preparing materials, and arranging for incentives.
- Plan and conduct user research using qualitative and quantitative methods for both in-person and remote studies; including usability and concept testing, heuristic reviews, card sorting, surveys, 1:1 interviews, persona development, contextual inquiry and secondary research.
- Produce clear research documents such as research plans, screeners, moderator guides and results/report documentation.
- Collaborate on mockups, wire frames, and clickable prototypes for rapid, iterative testing and design improvement.
- Synthesize, communicate, and present research findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Inform product managers and other stakeholders to use research findings to develop, refine, and prioritize product features and requirements.
- Ability to participate in an internship program of 10 -12 weeks in summer
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate or Graduate degree (in process) in Human Factors, HCI, Psychology, or equivalent discipline.
- Must have a strong interest in advocating for a user-experience research in a technology-centered company.
- Experience in planning, moderating and analyzing UX testing sessions (in-person and remote), conducting field research, creating surveys, facilitating focus groups, conducting card sorting studies and heuristic reviews is highly desirable.
- Some understanding and training in user-centered research methods is required.
- Relevant work samples or academic projects demonstrating proficiency in a variety of research methods.
- Work well in a fast-paced environment with iterative design and research cycles in an Agile environment.
- Independent self-starter with strong mixed-method research and project management skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience conducting UX research for mobile devices a plus.
- Must be a team player with a “can do attitude”.
Wage/Salary: $15/hour
