Project Archivist (temporary, part-time), Cambridge, MA

Job Summary:
The project archivist will arrange and describe the papers (roughly 50 cubic feet) of an individual who was an anti-war and civil rights activist, a funder of left wing organizations, and a family therapist.
Job Responsibilities:
- Establish project timeline
- Survey collection
- Identify preservation issues and recommend remediation measures
- Order supplies
- Rehouse the collection
- Identify collection series
- Write scope note and series descriptions
- Draft box lists
Education:
Required: MLS with a concentration in archives management from an ALA-accredited academic program
Preferred: Second Master’s degree in history
Certification:
Preferred: Academy of Certified Archivists
Experience:
Required: Minimum of 3 years of professional experience that includes project processing large 20th Century manuscript collections
Preferred: Familiarity with the history of mid to late 20th Century US activism
Additional Information:
- Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational and computer skills
- Familiarity with preservation and conservation issues relating to archives and manuscripts
- Ability to work effectively independently
- Detail oriented
- Ability and willingness to lift and move boxes of material weighing up to 40 pounds
Hours:
20 hours per week (9-1) for 4-6 months
Salary:
$25 per hour
