The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is Canada’s pre-eminent international museum and houses important collections in World Cultures and Natural History. The ROM currently invites applications for the following position:

As Department Head for the Library and Archives, you will be responsible for promoting scholarship by selecting, providing access to and preserving materials in the care of the ROM Library and Archives in accordance with international standards and in accordance with ROM’s policies. You will manage the operations of the Library and Archives, including budgeting and supervision of staff, student interns and volunteers. The ROM Library and Archives is affiliated with the University of Toronto Libraries which provides automated library services to the ROM. Duties include interaction with ROM departments and curators, as well as donors from the general public; provision of public services via the Reading Rooms; public communication through lectures, displays, exhibitions, teaching and use of social media. You will be expected to engage in research and publication as criteria for promotion and merit, and to participate on ROM committees and be actively involved in professional associations.

Qualifications

A postgraduate degree in library studies accredited by the American Library Association, or its equivalent. A second graduate degree in an area of specialty relevant to ROM research and collections would be an asset.

Five years of academic librarianship in a supervisory position. Previous museum librarianship would be an asset.

Salary and rank are commensurate with experience, as stipulated in the Collective Agreement between ROM and the ROM Curatorial Association. The appointment will be made at the rank of Librarian II or III.
