Position Summary

Reporting to the Head of the Gast Business Library, the successful candidate will be a member of the team that plans and delivers the full range of reference services, research support and collection development to the patrons of the business library. Specific services include research assistance with print and electronic resources, assistance with finding, analyzing and storing data sets, course-related instruction, and the creation of web pages, tutorials and videos. The successful candidate will coordinate the library’s PR and marketing functions, and will focus on support for both international initiatives and online business courses. Collection management and liaison responsibilities will be assigned in appropriate subject areas.  The successful candidate will also participate in professional development and scholarly activities and serve on library and university committees as elected or assigned; other appropriate duties as assigned.

Librarians are appointed as regular faculty in the continuous appointment system and participate in professional development and scholarly activities related to their position in addition to serving on library and university committees as elected or assigned. Other appropriate duties as assigned.

Michigan State University Libraries serve more than 4,900 faculty, 36,000 undergraduates and 11,000 graduate and professional students on a park-like campus of over 5,000 acres.  The Main Library and 5 branch libraries have combined holdings of over 5 million volumes. East Lansing is a community of approximately 50,000 located adjacent to Lansing, the state capital.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; ability to be flexible in a dynamic and changing environment; ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, students, and staff; ability to work independently and collaboratively; ability to prioritize and balance various unit needs; attention to detail; preparation and commitment to conduct independent scholarship consistent with a librarian appointment; capacity and commitment to engage independently in continuing professional development.

Desired Qualifications

Reference experience in an academic or business library, experience with business library resources. General knowledge of or strong interest in business data sources, best practices in data management and statistical analysis software such as SAS, SPSS or R. An interest in international business and online business education.
