Duties/Description: Assistant Librarian for a busy municipal library; 12.75 hours per week, year-round position; work schedule includes Monday and Wednesday evenings and some weekend shifts. Opportunities for additional hours on a fill-in basis.
Specific Duties: Performs the following duties on one or more of the public service desks:
- Performs circulation transactions to include checking materials in/out, placing and delivering patrons holds, renewing loans, advising patrons as to the status of their accounts, registering new patrons, performing catalog searches, receiving/processing materials and acting as reader’s advisor.
- Provides reference/information services to patrons.
- Answers general library inquiries and questions.
- Explains and enforces library policies and procedures to patrons.
- Provides patrons assistance with basic personal computing skills to include Internet use and user-level troubleshooting of equipment.
- Maintains orderliness of the departmental service area.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (minimum) and library experience preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to relate to patrons and staff with a friendly, courteous and professional manner required. Must be capable of lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds. Duties require frequent walking, stooping and kneeling.
The position will be subject to a 90 day probationary work period.
Hourly Wage: $15.58 to $19.61 per hour in 7 steps
