The Newton Free Library is the busiest single location library in the state, charting 1,658,948 circulations last year. According to our door counts nearly 700,000 people visited the library last year for materials borrowing, research assistance, study space, meetings and programs. We are seeking an applicant to join our team as a part-time Senior Library Assistant. This is a great opportunity to see how a Technical Services Department works in a busy public library.
We are seeking a detail oriented person to assist with the cataloging of our new Audio Visual (AV) materials
Responsibilities include: Unpacking AV materials checking against packing lists and contacting vendors in case of discrepancies. Processing AV materials; barcoding, creating and affixing call number labels, informational labels and reinforcing packaging when necessary. Classifying AV materials assigning Newton Free Library specific Dewey call numbers to AV items. Attaching AV items to our database using our online Cataloging module (Innovative). Attaching and coding RFID tags for AV materials. Additional responsibilities as directed by the Supervisor of Technical Services
Hours: 15 hours per week (no nights or weekends). We request a commitment of at least a year.
Qualifications: Strong candidates will have completed a basic cataloging class, and will have familiarity with Innovative Interfaces software or another integrated library system. Bachelor’s Degree required. Must be capable of lifting 40 pounds.
