Job Description:

Champlain College seeks an enthusiastic, collegial, collaborative, and service-oriented librarian to serve as an integral member of their award-winning library team providing high quality academic library services in an innovative setting. This position will coordinate all aspects of Champlain’s collection development and management program, including both print and electronic resources, to ensure that the library’s collections and procedures remain vibrant and responsive to our academic environment.

Responsibilities for this position include: continuing a well-developed faculty outreach program; developing and managing the library’s print and online collections; negotiating contracts and maintaining vendor relations; maintaining and processing collections budget information; participating in curriculum review; managing the production and analysis of assessment data related to the library’s collections and their use; as well as creating and maintaining appropriate policies.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead our collection development initiatives, including, but not limited to, patron-driven acquisition models. The Academic Outreach & Collections Librarian will design and develop collections for a range of traditional and non-traditional patrons. In keeping with Champlain College’s core value of “human touch”, other key responsibilities include regular reference services, general outreach, as well as teaching in the library’s innovative inquiry-based information literacy instruction program as part of the library’s award-winning Teaching Librarian team.

This position requires regular weekly evening reference duties throughout the semester. The Academic Outreach & Collections Librarian will report to the Assistant Library Director – Teaching, Learning & Assessment.

Requirements:

Master’s degree in library science or related field from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent required.

Must have well-demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills; strong service orientation; experience fostering and maintaining positive outreach relationships; report outcomes; apply new technologies, and manage a variety of responsibilities.

Expertise in and experience with designing and managing an effective collection development and management program for print and electronic resources an advantage.

Proficiency with spreadsheets, budget management, and integrated library system acquisitions modules (currently Innovative Millennium) required.

The successful candidate will display creativity, initiative and flexibility, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, plan and implement projects, prioritize and manage a range of responsibilities. S/he will be well informed on current and emerging practices, theory and issues with collection development and acquisitions.

The successful applicant will also demonstrate ability and interest in instruction and information literacy; will have excellent communication skills and the ability to respond to patron requests effectively and efficiently.
