Reporting to the Head of Special Collections and University Archives, the University Archivist is responsible for administering activities related to Old Dominion University’s historical records and documents. The University Archivist fosters relationships with units and individuals across the campus to acquire the most significant materials for documenting and promoting the history and functions of ODU. As a member of the Special Collections and University Archives staff, the incumbent will participate in the delivery of reference assistance, instruction in the use of resources, outreach, digital and collection development services, and work closely with other units in the Libraries to ensure effective access to their collections and archives. The University Archivist will assist the Head in providing personnel supervision within the department, including a number of student assistants, volunteers and interns.
Qualifications
Required:
A graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution (or international equivalent), and/or a graduate degree in archival studies. Experience working in archives.
Preferred:
Experience with standards based on non-MARC metadata schemas such as Dublin Core, MODS, METS, EAD, and other library and archival description and content standards. Experience identifying and cultivating donors and other stakeholders in supporting library or archival programs. Experience with collection development. Knowledge of intellectual property issues related to archives, libraries, and special collections and copyright issues associated with print and digital technologies. Supervisory experience.
Salary and Benefits: Minimum $50,000. Excellent benefits package.
