Reference Intern, James P. Adams Library, Rhode Island College, Providence, RI

The James P. Adams Library at Rhode Island College seeks a current library school student to intern at our reference desk for Summer 2015. You will have the opportunity to work at our dynamic reference desk and shadow experienced reference librarians.

You will learn the following skills:

  • Perform a reference interview.
  • Assist patrons in locating online and print library resources in person and via phone, text, and email.
  • Create and edit LibGuides.
  • Participate in collection development activities, including the library’s “deselection” project to identify outdated books for weeding.
  • Work with diverse student populations of varying ages and backgrounds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications of the Student Intern:

  • Completion of the Reference and Information Services class
  • Interest in Academic Librarianship
  • Strong interest in public service

June through mid-August
