Job Description
The Course Reserves and ILL Assistant processes materials for course reserves, assists in fulfilling interlibrary loan requests and provides general circulation services at the O’Neill Library Circulation Desk. The schedule is a full time 12 month/year permanent position and the work days are Tuesday – Saturday with Sundays and Mondays off.
The Assistant, as part of the Course Reserves working group, performs all phases of processing required to make course reserves readings available to the students – online and in paper. Duties associated include communicating with Faculty about the status of their reserve requests, which include providing estimates on processing time, explaining copyright regulations, tracking reserves currently in process, locating articles in online databases, scanning book chapters, and processing physical items and adding them to reading lists.
The assistant is also part of the Interlibrary Loan work group that obtains materials not owned by BC for members if the BC community. Duties associated include verifying citation received from BC users by utilizing BC Library databases, ordering materials via OCLC, Rapid and Docline, communicating with users about the status of their requests, and processing materials received from other libraries and making them available to members of the BC community.
Lastly as a member of the Access Services department, the assistant will also work at the O’Neill circulation desk. Tasks associated include charging and discharging library materials, instructing users in navigating the course reserves database to find material on reserve for their courses; helping patrons find and identify materials online as well as in the book stacks; interpreting library policies and explaining services to users.
Requirements
- 1 – 2 years experience with course reserves or interlibrary loan and familiarity with library organizations, cataloging and classifications
- demonstrated commitment to customer service

- excellent verbal and written communications
- ability to work collaboratively in a team based environment
- ability to communicate with faculty, students, and staff
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree
