Children’s & Teen Services Librarian (Full Time), Langley-Adams Library, Groveland, MA

Reports to and works under the direction of the Library Director and is responsible for collection development, planning, organizing, implementing and maintaining children’s and teen programs. This is a permanent full time position (up to 37 hours/week) including some evening and weekend hours.

Duties/Description:

The Langley Adams Library is looking for a professional with a can-do attitude and who sees themselves or aspires to be a leader in the field of Children’s & Teen library services who will develop, promote and provide sustainable library services for children, teens and their families. The Children’s services librarian is responsible for selecting and maintaining materials for children and teen collections; Coordinating and implementing special programs for children and teens; Planning and implementing Summer Reading program; Readers Advisory; Reference; Homework Help; Outreach and collaboration with schools and organizations that provide services to children, teens and their families. Other duties include staffing the circulation desk, organizing, shelving and repairing materials and other library related tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

Graduate of or enrolled in MLS program from ALA accredited College or University; Must be a positive, innovative team player able to contribute to long range planning goals; Provide leadership in area’s related to children’s and teen services; Prioritize initiatives and have a sense of humor.

Must be technologically competent and comfortable with social media, multi-media and basic database and office tools; Must have a commitment to connecting children and teens with literature; Knowledge of professional library methods and systems, as well as children’s and teen literature and reference resources and practices; Highly self motivated, creative and flexible with the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently; Ability to work with children and teens both individually and in groups; Ability to work collaboratively with parents, teachers, and other adults working with children and teens.

Physical Requirements:  Work is performed in a typical office environment with moderate noise. Must be able to stand, walk, stoop and reach with hands and arms. Required to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Required to lift on occasion, up to 50 pounds and able to push a cart of materials up to 150 pounds.

Compensation: $16 to $17.68 per hour based on experience plus full benefits including health insurance, vacation, sick and personal days.
