Summary:
Simmons College Library seeks a creative and collaborative individual to serve as Systems & Web Applications Librarian. This position coordinates and provides innovative technology solutions to students, faculty, and staff.
Responsibilities include: developing and maintaining Library web applications; ensuring availability and optimized use of library hardware and software, including the ILS; acting as a liaison from the Library to the College’s Technology Department; evaluating and offering recommendations on feasibility of emerging technologies; implementing new products and services; coordinating and conducting regular assessment of library systems and websites; offering technology support and/or training for Library services and resources; providing training to Library staff; cooperating on technology projects with other academic and administrative departments; participating in reference service and Library committees/projects.
Requirements:
- Masters degree from an ALA accredited program in Library & Information Science.
- Experience supporting library infrastructure and library-specific systems. These may include, but are not limited to: Integrated Library System, Interlibrary Loan System, Research Guides, Proxy Server, and Digital Repository.
- Demonstrated ability to identify hardware and software issues and solve problems locally or work with appropriate vendors.
- Ability to conduct user outreach and technology training workshops.
- Knowledge of web programming languages and database technologies including HTML5, CSS3, PHP, Javascript, and MySQL.
- Commitment to excellent customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collegially with students, faculty and colleagues.
Preferred:
- Minimum of 2 years of increasingly responsible experience in an academic library.
- Experience managing library systems such as III’s Millennium, Atlas Systems’ Illiad, Springshare’s Research Guides, and OCLC’s EZProxy.
- Windows and Linux server management experience.
- Experience managing hand-coded websites as well as with content management systems.
- Experience with project management, especially documenting requirements for technology projects.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
