Systems Librarian, Becker College, Worcester, MA

The Becker College Libraries announce an immediate opening for an expert, technically skilled and forward-thinking systems librarian.

Reporting to the Director of Libraries in a collaborative team environment which supports two college libraries on Becker’s Worcester and Leicester campuses, respectively, the Systems Librarian will work with library staff and outside vendors to ensure optimization and continuous improvement of the library’s systems and electronic resources, including, but not limited to, the Millennium integrated library system, electronic databases and e-journals, as well as the library resources portions of the college website and library social media outlets and related interfaces.  The librarian will manage database and networked access through EzProxy, and assume responsibility for management and troubleshooting.  The librarian will provide training on the library system and library catalog, electronic resources, and college enterprise-wide systems as necessary.  This individual will also maintain the library staff wiki and knowledgebase.  Reference and information desk duty and oversight of library work-study students and student workers is required.  The librarian will be called upon for library and extra-mural instruction and presentation on library resources and related information and computing technology topics that are relevant and engaging to students, faculty, and the college community.  This person will coordinate library data collection and reporting.  Additional responsibilities may evolve to include the development of digital archive and repository platforms.

Knowledge, skills, abilities, credentials required:

  • Master of Library and Information Science from an accredited program
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Access, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Relational database experience including designing tables and databases, importing/exporting data, writing queries, and knowledge of SQL
  • Web development/programming experience in HTML and CSS and experience with WordPress content management systems
  • Thorough understanding of integrated library systems – Millennium experience a plus
  • Knowledge of scholarly communication concerns including open access, open educational resources and institutional repositories
  • Library instruction and presentation skills – knowledge of experience with instructional technology and learning management systems a plus
  • Ability to act as a team player, communicate frequently with Director and library staff
  • Work independently with close attention to detail
  • Professionally represent library and college in-person and online
