Junior Library Assistant Level 4, Revere Public Library, Revere, MA

Payrate: $10.04 per hour

Hours: 16 hours per week including Saturdays and evenings.

The Revere Public Library seeks a Library Assistant to provide excellent customer service to library patrons in evenings and Saturdays.  The schedule is subject to change during holidays and Summer/ Fall and Spring hours.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists patrons at circulation desks and throughout the library
  • Circulates and shelves all library materials, including routing item to the hold shelf, other libraries as needed.
  • Assists patrons in locating print materials, in Revere and throughout the NOBLE network using the library catalog, and placing them on hold or requesting delivery.
  • Assists patrons in finding electronic materials and services.
  • Creates patron accounts.
  • Understands and explains library services and policies to patrons.
  • Reserves passes to museums and other attractions for patrons.
  • Provides information services to patrons as needed.
  • Provides basic assistance in the use of computers and printers, including basic troubleshooting.
  • Informs the Director or other staff of technical difficulties.
  • Reshelves materials.
  • Understands and clearly explains library policies.
  • Keeps up to date on Evergreen software updates.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements/Skills:

  • Post-secondary coursework, or experience in a public or academic library. Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs, internet browsers, and other common software.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule
  • The ability to learn new computer software.
  • Ability to use office equipment such as telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and printers, including basic troubleshooting.
  • Ability to understand classification and organization of library materials, such as the Dewey Decimal system and children’s materials.
  • Ability to maintain decorum amidst a diverse population, including children.
  • Respect for the privacy of library patrons and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of Evergreen or experience with other Integrated Library Systems.
  • Ability to climb stairs and to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 45 pounds.
