Description
This position provides curricular technology support for the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS), including discipline-specific web apps and tools required by the online and face-to-face SLIS programs. Support includes collaborating with SLIS faculty on their pedagogical technology needs and assisting with the development of hightouch, experiential, teaching and learning activities.
Experience
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, Information Technology/Systems, Archives, or related field highly preferred. Minimum of three years’ experience required.
Required Technology Experience:
- Installation of open source software and packages on a variety of operating systems, specifically Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Mac OS X Server, for example updating MediaWiki and WordPress MU for SLIS community usage
- Web application development in support of community needs, for example, using PHP/MySQL, Java, JavaScript, etc. for faculty and students in SLIS Database Management classes
- Support for web applications, including Apache, Tomcat, and others, for example, supporting and expanding the SLIS Digital Curriculum Lab (DCL): http://gslis.simmons.edu/dcl
- Server administration with a clear understanding and preferable usage within a clientserver architecture, for example, supporting virtual sandbox servers for SLIS faculty and students
Highly Preferred Technology Experience:
- Use of Drupal as a web building framework, for example, SLIS Digital Curriculum Lab
- Learning management systems, preferably Moodle back-end administration, for example, supporting SLIS Continuing Education online courses
- Familiarity with LIS and Archives digital asset management systems, the LIS and Archives educational environment, and/or the needs of LIS and Archives faculty and students who are primary clients
The successful candidate will have excellent customer service and communication skills - both verbal and written, be creative and a problem-solver, and will be comfortable taking initiative on assigned and new projects. The candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
