Boxford is a suburban New England town located on the North Shore of Massachusetts, with easy access to Routes 95, 93 and 495.  It is approximately 25 miles north of Boston.  The town embodies a colonial setting with numerous historical sites and restored dwellings within a pleasant rural environment. It is a community with a population of approximately 8,500 residents, many of whom are from professional and high technology fields.  Additionally, Boxford has an excellent public school system, with two elementary schools and the Masconomet Regional Middle and High Schools.

The Trustees of the Boxford Town Library are seeking an energetic, personable, forward-looking, collaborative, customer driven Library Director. The ideal candidate will have experience in library needs assessment, grant writing, and fund raising. The successful candidate has a strong commitment to public service, recognition of the importance of every library user, a thorough knowledge of professional library principles, methods, practices and programs.

Job Summary:

The Library Director is responsible for management and operation of the library and its program of services in accordance with policies established by the Board of Library Trustees.  The Director works in close cooperation with the Board, serving as its advisor and as an active participant in policy and budget development, goal setting, planning and evaluation.  The Board delegates to the Director full authority in such areas as collection development; budget management; and personnel administration, selection and supervision.  The position is directly accountable to the elected Board of Library Trustees.

Qualifications:

ALA accredited MLS. Strong background and skills in a broad range of current library technologies. Demonstrated record of innovative library programming and outreach.

Excellent skills in supervision and interpersonal relations, written and oral communication and public relations.  Proven managerial, organizational and planning skills.  Ability to lead and develop professional staff. Experience and knowledge of fiscal management and automated library systems.  Creativity, flexibility, and proven ability to handle many tasks at once. Three years of progressively responsible public library experience, or five years of experience in a service institution with comparable demands and responsibilities (i.e., staff supervision, working directly with the public, working with governing boards or bodies).

Compensation:

Salary range of $66,300-$86,800 with a starting salary depending on qualifications and experience.
