Librarian, Bakersfield College, Bakersfield, CA

The successful applicant for the library position is expected to provide a wide range of reference and information services including but not limited to providing library instruction in a variety of settings; using current and emerging technology in reference and instruction duties; developing and maintaining the Library’s electronic and print collection; instruct students in credit courses; develop, coordinate and assess library instruction and information competency programs for students and faculty; develop and coordinate programs to promote library resources and services to students. The assignment will be made based on the successful applicant’s experience, background, and institutional need.

This assignment may include working at other campus sites, day, evening, weekend classes, using distance learning or using other multiple teaching methodologies.

Other duties include participating in student recruitment and articulation of services, maintaining subject matter currency; developing and revising curriculum; using computers and multimedia technologies; assessing student learning and program level outcomes; collegial participation in department, college, and discipline specific professional activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s in library science, or library and information science;

OR

The equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for this position. Candidates who feel they possess such equivalent qualifications must submit an Application for Equivalence form. Supporting documents must be included with the completed form.

AND

A demonstrated sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.

Note: Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an evaluation service.
