Hours: 10 to 20 hours/week, flexible during Monday-Friday 9-5 time period
Salary: $18/hour.
Duties:
The Penn Libraries seeks an Electronic Resource Access Intern to help build and support electronic library services for scholars and learners worldwide. This is an opportunity to gain practical work experience at a leading research library in the complex and multifaceted world of electronic resource acquisitions and access. Working in the Penn Libraries Acquisitions, Access and Licensing Department, the Intern will provide cohesive support regarding e-resource access and discovery. The Electronic Resource Access Intern will support workflows for e-resource activation and maintenance within the Libraries knowledgebases, including the Libraries ILS. Intern will support work and workflows changes to existing or new tools and the development of new workflows, including the opportunity to gain practical experience on the implementation of the Libraries newly acquired discovery layer, Summon, and new link resolver, 360 Link. The Electronic Resource Access Intern is a paid internship, ideally for an MSLIS candidate who can work 15-20 hours per week during 2015. Work will take place in the Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
Required Qualifications:
- Coursework towards the completion of a Masters in Library and Information Science
- Strong organization and time-management skills; attention to accuracy and detail is essential
- Strong Excel skills, comfortable learning new software
- Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working with OpenURL resolvers, Discovery Services, ILS systems and/or ERMS.
- Technical abilities in the area of integration of disparate data sources and experience with and knowledge of data manipulation tools such as MARC Edit, OpenRefine and/or Data Wrangler.
- Experience with Library functions; acquisitions, processing and/or description experience.
