Archive Consultant, American Folklore Society, Boston, MA
Posted February 6, 2015
Qualifications: Professional archivist with a specialty in digital assets management and a background in cultural archives (as opposed to government or corporate records). Knowledge of best practices in audio-visual preservation is a must. The consultant would determine best practices for long term access to and preservation of MCC’s folk archival collection. The work would need to be completed by May 31, 2015 with a report relevant to other public folklore programs whose field-generated materials are already catalogued.
Draft work plan:
- Explore some kind of mutually beneficial partnership with a university special collections or other repository that has both trained staff and a stated mission supporting preservation and access
- Draft MOA between MCC and potential repository for the transfer of the collection
- Address deterioration and format obsolescence of analog and digital holdings
- Develop priority lists for the digitization of materials
- Work with archival partner to prepare metadata (so it can be hosted by www.digitalcommonwealth.org)
- Produce detailed, multi-media finding aid for the Web
- Make [curated selection of] archival collection itself available on the Web.
