Job Description:

Grade 14

Library Assistant III – Part-time

Saturday 8:30 am – 2:45 pm;

Sunday 10:30 am – 5:30 pm;

Monday Noon- 7:00 pm

As Learning Commons and Technical Support Desk Supervisor coordinate and oversee service activities, including library information and technical support, in the UMass Amherst Learning Commons in the W.E.B. Du Bois Library.

Requirements:

Working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.

Working knowledge of standard software applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, email, chat, and other web-based applications.

Working knowledge of the methods, materials, technologies and equipment used in libraries and computer labs.

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively and work productively in establishing and maintaining harmonious working relationships with a diverse population of staff and students.

Strong service orientation and the ability to meet the public graciously and tactfully.

Strong customer service attitude and initiative.

Ability to prepare reports and maintain accurate records.

Ability to master new technologies and explain them to others.

Working knowledge of HTML editors and familiarity with creating and maintaining online interfaces.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to read, write, comprehend and speak the English language.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to handle multiple responsibilities.

Ability to exercise sound judgment.

Ability to assemble data in accordance with established procedures, work accurately with names, numbers, codes and symbols, file materials in accordance with standard filing procedures.

Ability to adjust and respond effectively to changing needs and priorities in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment.

Ability to assign work, supervise and review the work of others.

Ability to lift and carry heavy boxes of books, large items of equipment, and other heavy materials.

Ability to meet the public graciously and tactfully.

Ability to speak effectively before groups.

Ability to work assigned schedule; and a varying schedule during the academic semester as necessary, and to work some evening, weekend and holiday hours as assigned.

Four years college degree or high school diploma or equivalent plus two (2) years academic library experience.

Supervisory experience.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Customer service experience.

Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, chat, and web-based software applications.
