Access Services Librarian, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN

Duties/Responsibilities: The Access Services Librarian directs and manages all aspects of the library access services, and promotes these services to Law School faculty, students, and staff, as well as to other library constituencies. These services include circulation, reserves, carrel administration, room reservations, and stack management. Duties include managing the circulation department; developing policies and procedures; supervising and evaluating the performance of 4 FTE library assistants; overseeing student hiring and training, and managing an annual budget for departmental student assistants; and overseeing the online circulation system, including financial transactions for fines and fees. The Access Services Librarian conducts outreach to library users through surveys, publications, and events. This position coordinates library security, space planning and facility maintenance. The Access Services Librarian provides support to the interlibrary loan/document delivery department. The Access Services Librarian represents the Law Library on campus, regional, and national levels, engages in research and scholarship relevant to law librarianship or substantive legal subjects, and participates in professional service activities.

Required/Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.L.S. from an A.L.A. accredited graduate school
  • Minimum of two years of public services experience in a law library environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Alma integrated library system
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legal research materials
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current developments in law librarianship
  • Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills, strong service philosophy, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Evidence of ability to contribute actively to the law library profession, the legal profession, and legal education through scholarly publications and participation in professional activities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supervising access services in an academic law library
  • Experience overseeing an online circulation system
