This position manages the technical side of the Library’s legal alerts and current awareness services. This job is responsible for distributing the Massachusetts Register bi-weekly, routing legal journal table of contents as they are received, and responding quickly to Interlibrary Loan borrowing and lending requests. This position also works closely with the Reference Librarian to set up legal alerts, bill tracking and other current awareness tools that the Library subscribes to, for members.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees the Library’s Table of Contents legal alert and manages the Library’s Massachusetts Register bi-weekly alert service. Tasks include: maintains email lists; scans and distributes new journal table of contents as they are available; fills article requests while complying with Copyright; communicates with members about this service; maintains and updates the WordPress website; works with Accounting for billing purposes. (40%)
- Assists library patrons with locating materials not held by the Library using the OCLC Worldshare system and Sierra ILL module. Duties associated include: verifying citation received from library members; ordering materials via OCLC, identifying correct bibliographic records; communicating with members about the status of their requests; and processing materials received from other libraries. Fills requests from other institutions in a timely and accurate manner. (40%)
- Helps staff the Circulation and Copy Center as needed and other duties as assigned. This includes: closing the library; checking in and out library materials; shelving and collection maintenance; interpreting library policies and explaining services to members. (20%)
Position Requirements:
Education: B.A. or B.S. and an MLIS or current enrollment in an MLIS graduate program.
Experience: Familiarity with Innovative’s Sierra integrated library system, Mail Chimp, Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe Professional, Google Drive, WordPress and OCLC’s Worldshare portal. Past experience working in a document delivery or interlibrary loan office is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Familiarity with legal publications in all formats; legal and library-related current awareness publications; online legal resources and search methods. Patron service work-ethic required. Must possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work well with frequent interruptions.

Interacts with supervisors, acquisitions staff, document delivery staff, circulation, IT and other Library staff and Library members and patrons.
Working Conditions: The Social Law Library is an air-conditioned and smoke-free facility. Ability to climb/descend stairs required.
Compensation: $12.50 per hour
Hours:
This is a part-time position to be worked Monday through Friday in shifts of no fewer than 4 hours, up to 30 hours per week, and afternoon shifts are preferred. Regular attendance is required.
