Job Description:

Reporting to the Dean of University Libraries, the Electronic Resources Librarian is responsible for providing oversight of electronic resources in consultation with the Research Services and User Engagement Librarian. As a liaison librarian, the incumbent will provide a full range of information services in assigned academic areas, including reference/research services, library instruction, creation of course guides and associated duties in support of the Library.

This is a Part-time temporary assignment from January 2015 – May 2015.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:

1. Electronic Resources: Oversee the electronic resources department and associated workflow.

2. Information Services: Provide research consultations for in-person and distance learning students, faculty, staff, and members of the local community.

  • Instruct faculty and students in the use of and access to print and electronic resources;
  • Collaborate with librarians as well as other library departments in order to provide the highest quality patron services within the physical and virtual Learning Commons;
  • Promote library services to distance and online students.

3. Instructional Services: Communicate with faculty about their instructional needs, prepare handouts, web course guides/tutorials, and other instructional materials; teach classes and evaluate effectiveness of instruction.

4. Supervision: Oversee the daily work of the Electronic Resources Associate. Communicate with the Associate Dean regarding performance.

Additional Functions:

Work with the Electronic Resources Associate to market and promote the Library’s electronic resources. Serve as a member of the Learning Commons Marketing Committee. Keep abreast of recent developments in information services and look for opportunities to develop and offer new services and resources to users. Attend librarians/professional staff meetings. Participate in library events, assessment activities and/or exhibits. Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or his/her designee.

Requirements:

Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA accredited program. Experience instructing students in a formal library instruction program. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Requires tact and a strong service attitude to work with students, faculty, and staff in a service environment. Must have thorough knowledge of print and electronic information resources appropriate to the curriculum.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated computing skills and efficiency utilizing complex computing applications on the systems and programs of the University’s choice; currently, by way of example, Microsoft Office Suite, Internet search engines and Innovative Interfaces library system. Expertise in the use of library online databases and Web applications.

At the University’s discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
