Production Interns (2): Interns work with the Production Coordinator, Master Carpenter, Master Electrician, House Sound Engineer, and house crew on all aspects of technical theatre and film. This includes hands-on in all of the following areas – carpentry, lighting, sound, audio/visual, and running crew.
Marketing/Public Relations (1): Interns work on all aspects of publicizing the organization including writing press releases, giving tours of the galleries, preparing press packets, advertising for all upcoming performing arts events in surrounding areas, researching new forums for publicity, and
assisting with public outreach and special events.
Archive Intern: (1): Intern will work in cooperation with several departments
to introduce a practical framework for MASS MoCA’s collection of archival media. This is a new position and a sizable project-you are expected to be a problem-solver and work with autonomy. The candidate will likely: Help develop a standards manual to ensure data unity. Create usable metadata keywords and methods. Digitize analog media. Applicants should be in a library science, archive, or digital asset management program and have a strong knowledge of social media trends. In addition to your CV, cover

Graphic Design (1): Intern assists in day-to-day tasks of MASS MoCA’s in-house design studio, both digital and physical, working closely with the design, curatorial and marketing departments. Working directly with the Creative Director and Senior Designer, this position is 1/3 graphic designer, 1/3 production, and 1/3 jack-of-all-trades. Projects include (but not limited to) production and installation of vinyl exhibition and way finding signage, weekly advertising design, digital archive management, vendor
contact, daily museum photography, upkeep of website components, and general studio tasks. Intern should demonstrate enthusiasm, stamina, and willingness to work with a team. Excellent knowledge of Adobe CS4 or higher (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) required, with working to advanced knowledge of Flash. Excellent knowledge of digital photography hardware and intermediate photo editing skills.
Arts Administration (2): Intern works directly with the Managing Director of Performing Arts in the coordination of current and future season planning, general office work, and maintaining and updating all performing arts files. The intern will alternate between the Assistant to the Managing Director and Company Manager with drafting event programs, researching upcoming artists, assisting with artist services to arranging transportation and housing logistics of visiting artists, staff, and fellow interns. You must have a valid US
driver’s license.
Development (1): Intern will be working directly with the Manager of Foundations and Corporate Grants and the Membership Coordinator on all aspects of MASS MoCA’s fundraising activities, including research, grant-writing, direct mail, special events and database management. Interns will be required to work up to 50 hours per week, although some weeks could be longer. In an average week, you will spend two days working on foundations and corporate grants and two days on membership, with the
remaining day alternating as workload requires.
Assets for Artists : Assets for Artists is an innovative and fast-growing program that offers free financial training, business planning resources, and working capital grants for artists to invest in their creative micro-enterprises. The program now serves over 100 artists (in all disciplines) throughout the northeast. Working at MASS MoCA (the lead partner behind Assets for Artists) as a key member of a small team, the Assets for Artists intern will be involved in all aspects of program administration and development,

Film Technician: Intern will help maintain The Dying of the Light: Film as Media and Metaphor, an exhibition featuring a selection of visual artists who are among the dedicated group working with analog film rather than digital formats. Artists include Rosa Barba, Matthew Buckingham, Tacita Dean, Rodney Graham, Lisa Oppenheim, and Simon Starling. Applicants should be interested in honing skills necessary for projecting 16mm and 35mm films in a museum setting, and have experience with film already. The
intern will work and learn under the guidance of consultant technicians experienced with 35mm and 16mm projections during installation and additional workshops, but will also be expected — given the opportunity — to work mainly on his or her own. Primary duties will include assisting with the
particularities of each projection with artists’ assistants and film technicians; splicing and looping film; maintaining and repairing 16mm and 35mm projection equipment; cleaning of hardware and film on daily and weekly basis; turning on and off the projectors at beginning and end of day; and replacing copies of film when necessary, among other tasks. Intern will also work with Susan Cross, the curator of the exhibition, and as time allows, will work on additional research projects and exhibitions. This internship is
a unique opportunity to learn from artists and experienced projectionists and foster and improve skills associated with an art and technology that is rapidly becoming obsolete and, simultaneously, more important to preserve.
