Digitization Technician (3 positions)

Digital Lab, Harvard Law School Library

 

(35 hours per week; no benefits: May 19 to June 19, 2014)

 

Duties: For one month, you will join the experienced project team in the Harvard Law School Library Digital Lab digitizing Reporters of U.S. case law. This mass digitization effort began in the fall of 2013. We now wish to conduct a double-shift experiment to chart the future course for the project. We seek energetic, detail-oriented, and collaborative individuals who are proficient with technology and comfortable working with industrial-grade equipment. Job duties may include metadata production, physical preparation of volumes for scanning, operation of a high-speed scanner, and/or vacuum sealing volumes after scanning.

 

Qualifications:

 

• Proven ability to learn new technologies and adaptability to perform tasks accurately.

• Experience or comfort with hand tools to disbind volumes, and a power “guillotine” to trim edges of text blocks

• Experience in workflow management or materials tracking, as well as routine data entry tasks

• Experience in producing metadata for any type/discipline of material, particularly legal information

• Track record of meeting deadlines consistently, proficiency and enjoyment working independently as well as on teams.

• Interest in contributing to innovating new and robust digitization workflows

 

Schedule (35 hours per week):

– 2 positions available M-Thu, 3:00-11:00 pm, Fri, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm;

– One position available M-Fri, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

 

Salary: $20.00 per hour
