Temporary Archival Processing Assistant, University of North Texas, Denton TX

The Libraries Department at the University of North Texas is seeking a student currently enrolled in a graduate degree program for a paid, 10-week position working with the archive of the Texas Society, Sons of the American Revolution (TXSSAR). This is a paid position.

 

The successful applicant will be expected to work full-time and complete 400 hours of work. Duties will include:

 

* Conducting a survey of the TXSSAR collection and writing a processing plan making recommendations for records retention in consultation with TXSSAR members

* Using accepted archival standards to arrange and describe materials in the TXSSAR collection and creating an on-line guide to the TXSSAR collection.

* Writing an article for the TXSSAR newsletter

 

This position will work with all the various types of materials in the TXSSAR archive including organizational records, photographs, scrapbooks, awards and other types of objects. The intern will be trained and supervised by archives staff, but will be expected to work independently for the majority of their work.

 

The Texas Society, Sons of the American Revolution was founded in 1896 and has over 48 active chapters within the state. UNT Archives was selected as the official repository for TXSSAR records in 2003.
